Swimming to success - two Tupton Hall Students compete at the championships!
Two Tupton Hall students, Alex and Joe, competed at the East Midlands Regional Championships in Corny and Derby.
When asked about his success, Joe modestly commented; “I have been swimming for over 8 years so I have become quite good at it. I enjoy that it is competitive and I love it when I win. I have to motivate myself to get up at 4:30 am before school but I’m proud that I have stuck with it for all these years. Teachers ask how my competitions go and wish me luck.
Our second resident swimmer, Alex, has shown similar commitment, swimming 3 of the last 4 weekends and will be at the Team Bath last chance National qualifier at Millfield School ,Somerset, this weekend.
At the 2 regional weekends Alex had some great swims which resulted with him becoming East Midlands Junior regional Champion in 200 Butterfly and also gaining a silver in 100 fly and bronze in 400 freestyle. This weekend was the last chance to post a time to try and qualify for British and National championships in July, Alex travelled with a squad of swimmers from Chesterfield along with his coach and 2 team managers without any parents allowed to attend. Since his return from the Tenerife training camp in February all his training has been tapered to this weekend, Alex again had a brilliant weekend having 5 races.
Alex’s proud mum commented; “We are proud to say that Alex has done amazingly well to qualify for 3 events at the Aquatics Great Britain Summer Championships and 3 events at the English National Championships which take place at Ponds Forge over the last 2 weeks of July. The preparation and training began today which is going to be Alex’s hardest period of training he will have done to date but I’m sure he will give it his best shot! We are extremely grateful for Tupton Hall’s continued support with Alex’s swimming.”
